32nd National Arts & Crafts Conference at the Omni Grove Park Inn, Asheville, NC February 15 – 17, 2018

For the past 30+ years, Arts and Crafts enthusiasts, including new collectors, veterans, curators, craftspersons, authors, builders, architects, designers, editors, and bungalow owners, have traveled to the Grove Park Inn in Asheville for the annual Arts & Crafts Conference and Antiques Show in February. The three-day conference is usually a sellout, with 1,500 attendees and more than 2,000 tickets sold for the antiques and contemporary crafts show. And winter is a great time to visit Asheville. Education of the Arts and Crafts collector has been the goal of the annual gathering since the beginning. The event is unique for its full range of offerings for the passionate collector and those interested in the Arts and Crafts period. The three-day agenda includes lectures, small group discussions, special exhibitions, book exhibits, a contemporary crafts show and the finest of the antiques shows devoted to the Arts and Crafts period. Olympics at the Tyron Equestrian Center

See beautiful horses and have an unique experience. There is nothing like this in the Eastern United States. It is only one hour away from Arbor House of Black Mountain. You can spend your second day in Asheville or at the Biltmore or just enjoy the lake and mountain views from our Bed and Breakfast. The FEI World Equestrian Game 2018 will be held at the Tryon International Equestrian Center in North Carolina (USA) from 10 to 23 September 2018. Testing for the equestrian game happens in April. This is the Olympics of Horsemanship. It’s a spectacular venue and with eight disciplines. The Tryon International Equestrian Center, created by Mark Bellissimo in Mill Spring, North Carolina showcasing some of the top riders in the Hunter/Jumper, Dressage, and Event disciplines. It is situated on a 1,600 acre site at the foothills of the Blue Mountains. Leaf Festival

The LEAF Festival is an inter-generational celebration of world culture that uses music, arts, and creativity to champion artistic expression, instill cultural competency, and build a diverse & welcoming community.  It is set amoung the Blue Ridge mountains, just below Mt. Mitchell and near Black Mountain, the LEAF Festival Black Mountain NC scenic lake setting is just four miles from Black Mountain.   Experience spontaneous and great music from many corners of the globe. A dizzying array of traditions unite to present a diverse range of cultures: African, Latin, Appalachian, Cajun, Celtic, Blues, Bluegrass and more. We have Uber in Black Moutain, but it can be sporadic.  You can definitely get Uber from Asheville for any trips back. We Celebrated our Second Year Anniversary

Jim and I are so happy to celebrate our second year business anniversary as of June 1, 2017.  Our view from our Secret Garden spot.  We love our beautiful Black Mountain with the art and music events, 33+ shops, and 40+ restaurants.  The people are so friendly and welcome dogs in town.  We do go to Asheville for special occasions since it is only 15 minutes away, but always glad to come back to our relaxing town.  During an interview, I was asked “What are your best memories in the past year? Mother and Daughters, friends and families getting together under one roof.  There is so much laughter and warmth in the air. Making permanent friends with people who stay here.  I love knowing my repeat guests and we have a great talks.  A few of them are now living here in Black Mountain. Our first wedding.  A lovely couple had their second wedding here on site.  A couple of their friends came to stay with them for three days.  It was more work than we had originally thought, but it was so fun to get the experience and be part of such a happy occasion. Arbor House of Black Mountain B&B Speakeasy Dinner

We are so excited to have great guests renting the B&B next weekend. Our in-House Chef Jim is hosting our first Arbor House Speakeasy dinner. We created this menu to compliment our guests who are dressing up for the birthday event and we have chosen music from the 1920’s to boost the fun.

Conga Bars from Arbor House of Black Mtn NC

Conga Bars – Arbor House of Black Mtn NC  Ingredients: – 1 cup Pecans (Toasted/Chopped) – 1.5 cup Unsweetened shredded coconut – 1.5 cup AP Flour – can substitute Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Flour – 1 tsp Baking Powder – 1/2 tsp Salt – 12 TBS Unsalted Butter (Melted & Cooled) – 1.5 cup Light Brown Sugar – 2 Eggs (Slightly Beaten) – 4 tsp Vanilla Extract – 2 oz Bran – 2 oz Oats – 4 oz Dried Fruit – 4 oz Chocolate Chips OPTIONAL (Duke Mansion uses no chocolate chips and calls it a breakfast bar)   Directions: Preheat Oven to 350 degrees Toast Nuts & Coconut Sift dry ingredients together Whisk butter and brown sugar together until combined. Add eggs & vanilla extract and mix well. Fold dry ingredients into egg mixture; do not overmix. Fold in coconut and nuts (add optional chocolate chips here) then turn batter into prepared pan Bake until shiny, cracked, golden brown (aprox. 22-25 minutes). Cool on rack, unpan, wrap in plastic wrap & store in freezer
