Arbor House of Black Mountain B&B Speakeasy Dinner

We are so excited to have great guests renting the B&B next weekend. Our in-House Chef Jim is hosting our first Arbor House Speakeasy dinner. We created this menu to compliment our guests who are dressing up for the birthday event and we have chosen music from the 1920’s to boost the fun.

October Leaf Season is Upon Us

We are almost full for October.   Availability?   We had a cancellation for our premier room; the Lookout 21st-23rd.   The Studio is also available most Mondays-Thursday. The Asheville fall leaf color show in the North Carolina mountains attracts visitors from around the world. With the 5,000-foot elevation change within 50 miles of Asheville, our lush Blue Ridge Mountain range puts on one of the longest-running autumn leaf color displays in the country. After enjoying nature’s grand show, head to downtown Asheville to enjoy the many local restaurants and shops. For many photos and timeline from last autumn, see our 2015 Fall Photo Reports and travelogue. Blue Ridge Parkway & Mountains Fall Foliage Forecast 2016 The number one question is: “When is the peak color?” No matter when you plan an autumn visit in October or early November, you can take a short drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway or other mountain roads to find the best color of fall leaves. Elevation and weather are the biggest factors in the color show. Leaves begin their color change on the highest peaks and gradually work down to the lowest elevations. An early frost speeds up the show and warm weather […]

We Celebrated our First Year Anniversary

Jim and I are so happy to celebrate our first year business anniversary.  Our view from our Secret Garden spot.  We love our beautiful Black Mountain with the art and music events, 33+ shops, and 40+ restaurants.  The people are so friendly and welcome dogs in town.  We do go to Asheville for special occasions since it is only 15 minutes away, but always glad to come back to our relaxing town.  During an interview, I was asked “What are your best memories in the past year? Mother and Daughters, friends and families getting together under one roof.  There is so much laughter and warmth in the air. Making permanent friends with people who stay here.  I love knowing my repeat guests and we have a great talks.  A few of them are now living here in Black Mountain. Our first wedding.  A lovely couple had their second wedding here on site.  A couple of their friends came to stay with them for three days.  It was more work than we had originally thought, but it was so fun to get the experience and be part of such a happy occasion.   How did the tag line “The most breath-taking […]

Beautiful first day of May with Azaleas and Rhododendrons Blooming

Our guests have started to get up early just to have their cup of coffee or tea out on the deck.  They are memorized by the beauty of the mountains, glistening Lake Tomahawk, and our blooming gardens. Yesterday morning our guests ate outside on the deck and talked about the cute new goslings on the lake.   Our hikers trekked the Greybeard trail.  They loved the Montreat trails and was so happy to find such a great trail and it was within eight minutes of Arbor House of Black Mountain.  We moved a bench to a private place on the property  overlooking the Pisgah Forest and it is being taken full advantage.   Most of our guests walked into town to one of our many Black Mountain quaint stores and awesome restaurants.   We had two couples for their anniversary.  They celebrated at wonderful restaurants in nearby Asheville.   What a way to start the season.  We are looking forward to seeing more travelers to our “Home away from Home”. Beautiful New Handmade Mug from Friend

Our very creative friend Dan made this for us at the Arbor House of Black Mountain,  He and his lovely wife stayed with us in September.  He said he takes classes and would make a mug for our collection.  We have had this mug for over a month and it seems to be the most popular mug on our shelf. Thank you so much Dan!!! Related Events & Activites Beautiful first day of May with Azaleas and Rhodod… We Celebrated our First Year Anniversary

Black Mtn. Marathon and Mt. Mitchell Challenge Feb. 27th 2016 at 7 a.m.

Both races are sold out, but we are here to pamper you before and after the race.  Lake Tomahawk is a good place to observe the beginning and end of the race. Here is the official site.    http://www.blackmountainmarathon.com/ The Challenge begins at dawn in Black Mountain, the quaint “front porch of Western North Carolina”, and follows trails to the “rooftop” of Western North Carolina, the 6,684′ summit of Mount Mitchell – eastern America’s highest point – then return to the start/finish area!  With a starting altitude of 2,360′, the elevation gain for this 40-mile run will be 4,324′ – in the first 20 miles! Race founders Wendell Begley of Black Mountain Savings and Trent Thomas from Black Dome Mountain Sports saw a need for this kind of event for both the elite athlete and the weekend warrior. Their goal was to design a race that was attainable physically while offering the opportunity to test oneself against the often-uncooperative forces of nature! The Marathon runners start side-by-side with the Challengers and duplicate their course to the Black Mountain Gap overlook on the famed Blue Ridge Parkway.  Here, at an elevation of 5,340′ and with an extraordinary view of Mount Mitchell as […]

Improvements to Lake Tomahawk December 7th, 2015 to March 1st 2016

Arbor House of Black Mountain will  be providing a 15% discount to all rooms this winter except holidays. In December, Lake Tomahawk will be drained in order to remove 5,000 cubic yards of muck. It will alter Lake Tomahawk’s landscape of one of Black Mountain’s most popular attractions this winter. The process is meant to improve the appearance and water quality of the lake. It will be drained completely and empty for as long as three months. Work begins after the Circle of Lights, the first weekend of December. Dredging is expected to begin at least a month after the lake is drained. The sediment will be drying for the month allowing it to be pushed into rows for further drying before removal. Silt in the lake leads to lower water levels in an already shallow body of water, which increases the water temperature. Shallow, warm water is a breeding ground for bacteria. Improvements to Lake Tomahawk’s water quality will improve the quality of the Swannanoa River.
